UGA + Pruitt = 2014 champs? (OK, I’m trolling)

By Mark Bradley

Remember that Top 25 for 2014? The one that had Florida State No. 1 and Georgia No. 12? I’ve revised it. The new rankings look thusly:

  • 1. Georgia.
  • (Major gap.)
  • 2. Florida State.
  • (Everybody else.)

Yes, I’m kidding. KIDDING, you hear? But since I get accused of picking Georgia to win the national championship every year, I thought I’d have a little fun with y’all. Because that’s who I am. I’m Mr. Fun.

Seriously, though: I can’t help but be impressed by the drive and dispatch shown by Georgia in landing Jeremy Pruitt to replace Todd Grantham. When Grantham was hired, he’d never been a college defensive coordinator, nor had he — or has he even now — been part of a championship team. Pruitt has done both. Heck, at Florida State he just did both.

It also says something about the outside perception of Georgia that the DC at FSU would, eight days after winning the BCS title, leave to work for Mark Richt. It says that Pruitt — who’d previously worked at Alabama, being part of two championship efforts there — believes similar possibilities exist in Athens, Ga.

Understand: I’m not picking Georgia to win it all next season. But my projection of the Bulldogs finishing first in the SEC East just solidified.

I thought it was about time for the doggie fans to start claiming another pre-season national title. I think this makes 30 in a row. This is the most delusional fan base in college football. In order to have a better chance to get to the championship I would suggest uga cancel all games against D-1 teams with a pulse, and instead, schedule a series of games with nearby high schools. This would give them a chance to heal up any nagging "injuries", let all of the druggies and arrested players serve out their suspensions, and allow their defensive players to learn basic tackling, where to line up, aand how to knock down a pass if they actually cover someone. Should be another "great' year. By the way, how did that "dream team" recruiting class work out?

Self admitted trolling, because you are a troll.?

Not one day of practice and the press is trying to plot the path to championship a season. This is why the UGA football team is such a disappointment on a regular basis. It's called unrealistic expectations. Fans need to look no farther than the next game. That's surely what the team and coaches do. But fans and ATL writers like to predict the bright shinning future, EVERY year. Try winning the next game and then prepare for the next one. Just like a an alcoholic UGA fans should just take it one day at a time and stop trying to pick your seats for the SEC championship game in January.

Won't be long before the whole staff at UGAg is ACC/Florida State trained.  First Richt, now Pruitt.

It came down to basic math:

FSU- $500k/year

UGA- $850k/year

We still have Boo Boo the clown and whose offense led Appy State 14-6 at halftime and also lost to Vandy!

More Pruitt: “I feel like this is a championship staff"

LOL.  This guy is going to fit in just fine at the UGA program.

Wow.  It's starting to come to light why this guy bailed on F$U.......and it's not pretty.  Did UGa vet this guy properly?  Sounds like a Lil' Bobby Petrino.  Except insert booze for motorcycles.

I think this is a great hire.  As an Auburn fan, I was excited to have Grantham back for 2014.  Pruitt did a heck of a job slowing my tigers offense down in the second half of the NC game, and UGA has a ton of young talent.  Yall may have a special season ahead.

Note to all Dawg fans...Coke will be shipping your 2014 NC banner today. You will notice the format is different in that the last two digits of the year will be blank. You will receive a numbers kit so you can put the year number each year thus saving Coke the expense of a new banner. Enjoy. If you need extra banners then visit the below site.

Fill the 2-3 defensive coaching positions w/the staff from N Dak St.  They're doing something right up there.

By all accounts, Pruitt is a very good coach. That said, if I was a Georgia fan, I wouldn't be purchasing tickets to the 2014 SECCG just yet. Still, anyone is an upgrade over the choke-meister, so Dawg fans do have reason to be optimistic. Continuity is only a good thing when you are winning at a higher level than 62%.

Pruitt was a dc for one year at fsu. I'd say the recruiting classes he inherited were a large part of the reason he had success. That along with playing a weak schedule. If auburn doesn't drop a sure td pass in the first qrt and miss a fg, they score 41 points and win and the talk is completely different.

Point is if fsu was playing in the sec last year, the defense wouldn't be any different than 5-6 other sec teams. Time will tell but i remember how giddy ga fans were when cwm was hired and also ctg.

I'll predict the same old story. 30+ ppg in sec games and 3-4 losses next year and fans repeating the same whine we've heard the past decade

Pruitt has the background and the experience of  playing and coaching winning football. He understands that SEC fans know good football when they see it and there can be no snow jobs. It will be interesting to see if he can make the returning and new players buy into his scheme. I don't believe they will but that is just me. He will get a one season honeymoon as he is doing a complete rebuilding. The recruits he gets over the next few weeks are going to be all important. I think he will be fine in a couple of seasons and beyond.

Pruitt was a great hire.Fantastic resume with both Alabama and FSU on there. I'm looking forward to the tremendous energy he will bring to Athens. And on the recruiting side.............sweet! Things are looking up for UGA baby!

Great that Georgia got Pruitt on board, now their travel department can give the correct room count number to the Orlando Hotel for the Capital One Bowl next year

"It also says something about the outside perception of Georgia that the DC at FSU would, eight days after winning the BCS title, leave to work for Mark Richt."

I think it says more about FSU. The fan-base was divided by Coach Bowden's extended exit, and has been diminished by the football program's lack of relevance for such a long time. There is not nearly as much football money at FSU as there is at UGA.

Jeremy Pruitt is a great hire, but it did make sense for him to go to Georgia. He would have never seen the money that he'll make at Georgia had he stayed at FSU. Besides, he's back in the SEC now. FSU is just a wannabe SEC team stuck in the ACC.

I remember another bald headed DC at Georgia who was one of the best. Being a Preacher I don't believe in reincarnation, and the timing doesn't work, but this does feel a little bit like getting our Erk back. Coach Pruitt wanted to be here, we have some serious talent, he coaches DB's which were our biggest weakness, along with little pass rush. I personally think Josh Harvey Clemons just became a 1st round draft choice next year, and Brother Swann which has so much talent, but little coaching might be heading that direction. Coach Pruitt teaches being responsible and earning accomplishments, no wonder he had and expressed a desire to work with CMR. They share a belief system, this could be the beginning of something great. Irregardless, it is not a step backwards.

Great Hire for Georgia.  Jeremy is an outstanding young football coach who is years ahead of his age.  Jeremy is a film room rat who takes coaching very well from other coaches and it paid off.  Everyone you talk to who has worked with Jeremy will tell you how many hours he puts in and how attention to detail he is.\

Once again great get for Georgia.

Georgia could finish 5th in SEC east. Murray out, new defensive coordinator and

weak head coach. Six wins would be big for Dogs..

Yeah Championship is always a bit iffy to predict, but I think Pruitt is definitely a step in the right direction.  If he can bring the defense back to the form Van Gorder had it in, then UGA will be winning SEC titles again and getting shots at the National Title.

Winning the East isn't honestly really that special right now.  UGA would have won the East for the 3rd year in a row if not for the mass injuries sustained on offense.  Gurley, Marshall, Mitchell, Bennett, and Scott-Wesley were all out of the lineup when they lost to Missouri and Vandy.  South Carolina and Missouri are good teams, but they aren't good enough to win the SEC.  Florida has been one of the worst offenses in the country under Muschamp.

UGA overall should win the East next year on talent alone as long as they can stay healthy.  They lose Murray and really nothing else (a lot like the 2005 team that returned basically everyone but David Greene and David Pollack).  Also the schedule is easier with Clemson at home (minus Tajh Boyd, Sammy Wadkins, and others) and Arkansas instead of LSU.  Also, Auburn is at home.  South Carolina loses a lot with Conner Shaw, Clowney, and several others leaving.

I am for one not sad to see Grantham leave Georgia.  Never liked the man's approach to coaching or his attitude on the sidelines.  Pruitt will be a refreshing change for Dawg fans.

@CharleyBeanslike we have a shot at taking the DUI record from SC , hell Jeff Garcia had more than the entire UGA team one year. And we beat you by 11 this year and it really wasn't that close...

@PigIron spin it any way you want it pig...you have NEVER given UGA cred for anything, so why start now...only Pruitt knows why he came...could be like you say, money, money, money...could be he wanted the challenge of the the SEC...could be he wanted, as he stated, to work for Mark Richt...could be he hated Jimbo Fisher...could be his shrink told him to...I can say anything...go dogs

@TampGator1 Hey brother, it looks like Florida and Muschamp are turning up the recruiting and as of late are landing some players who will fit nicely into the system.  I spoke with Coach Mus a few weeks ago at a local high school and he is really positive and motivated, and that was before he got the OC he really wanted.  Catch ya later.

JeffersonDavisHogg
JeffersonDavisHogg

@TampGator1 And because of his antics on the sidelines and his coaching style I'm not sure the players gave their all for him. I thought it was pretty telling that Olivadotti wouldn't even consider making the move with Grantham stating "personal reasons". I think there was bad blood all the way around. This hiring will pay dividends in the long run and from the reaction of the players it already has.

Yes, you may say anything, but that doesn't imply that what you say will reflect reality.

He could have stayed at FSU. He came for a pay raise and an opportunity to coach in the SEC. I'm sure he looks forward to working with Coach Richt. Why wouldn't he?

@Bubbatavious got a serious question..if Bobo suxs how is it that his offense scored more points than any other UGA offense in history last year and they broke the record his offense set the year before that??
